Alfa Romeo Shedding Its Badge

Choosing a name for a car is still complicated for an automaker, but nevertheless, Alfa Romeo is giving it a try.

As Renault is planning to petition against the name ZOE (a name found among the top 10 in France this year) for its electric car, Italian employees are rallying against a name change for the Alfa Romeo Milano.

While Milan has been the long-time headquarters of production at Alfa Romeo, today marks the beginning of a new chapter. The last remaining 232 employees of the brand are set to leave and join the new facility in Turin.

However, they are protesting the emblem change for the successor to the Alfa 147.

The Alfa Romeo Milano was scheduled to be publicly unveiled on Monday, November 30, but this last-minute name change has forced the brand to take a second look at its marketing scheme, and has pushed back the car’s debut.

The Giulietta name, used by the brand for the 1954-1965 (photo) and 1977-1985 Quadrifolio, has been said to be the new name, although nothing has yet been confirmed.
