The New and Improved Mustang V6

While the star of the Mustang range is undoubtedly the V8, the fully-equipped V6 version is bound to turn some heads.

Though the previous V6s often left much to be desired, Ford has emerged with a new engine, as promised earlier, for 2010.

The 3.7-litre V6 Duratec delivers 305 horsepower, which is found in Ford sedans, however, this is the first time that its power has been fully optimised.

Two new transmissions will be offered with this engine, a manual and a 6-speed automatic, which should provide for smoother shifting compared to previous gear boxes.

Ford is also focusing on performance efficiency for the new Mustang. It consumes only 7.8 litres on the highway and only 12.3 litres in the city. These specs are lower than the 300-horsepower engines on the market.

The sound of the engine will be music to the driver’s ears, thanks to the revamped air induction and dual exhaust modifications for the new V6.

As for options, there is a Performance Package that will boast a new rear-axle ratio and 19-inch wheels. Even without the extras, the Mustang should have no problems rounding a corner, thanks to its 100% improved stiffer chassis.

The new Mustang will be presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, and is set to go on sale at the beginning of next year.
