Blake Lively Fought for Town Role

Blake Lively desperately wanted to prove to Ben Affleck that she was the right actress to star in The Town.

In an interview with Us Weekly, the Gossip Girl star admitted that she fought hard to star in the upcoming film.  The Town is currently shooting in Boston, Massachusetts.

The project’s directors were concerned when Lively expressed an interest in playing Krista Coughlin, a mother, in the dramatic thriller.  Nearly everyone thought that the star was simply too young to be believable in the role.

But the 22-year-old actress wasn’t about to give up hope.  She went to Boston to audition directly for Ben Affleck, who is directing the film.  Lively’s persistence paid off.  She explained, "My part was supposed to be a 37 year old. I was like, ‘I have to play this.’ And they’re like, ‘No, you’re not 37.  I took a train to Boston and auditioned for Ben and fought for the role, and he gave me the job on the spot. They rewrote it so I’m 29."

The Town opens in theatres on September 10, 2010.

Lively previously starred in the films The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Accepted and Sandman.
