The current Police Interceptor (see photo) is based on the Ford Crown Victoria, which will disappear in late 2011.
The Detroit company announced its replacement, which will likely be based on the Ford Taurus, for the first trimester of 2010.
Approximately 75% of American pursuit vehicles are Ford-built, according to the automaker that sells 45 000 police vehicles per year. This number could be dropping after General Motors announced the coming of the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice "Police Pursuit Vehicle."
To continue enticing North American police forces, Ford promises that the new model will see improvements in quality, reliability and fuel economy. The Police Interceptor will be loaded with a V8 that gives out 250 horsepower per 4.6-litre cylinder alone, which doesn’t quite qualify it as a gas-sipper.
