Michael Jackson’s Value Skyrockets

A portrait of Michael Jackson was sold for well over its estimated value.

A painting that Andy Warhol made of Jackson was sold for $812 500, a price considerably higher than what it had been appraised at by an art merchant.  The original appraisal quoted its value at somewhere between $500 000 and $700 000.

With the important sale at Christie’s in New York on Tuesday (November 1), it seems that the value of the work of art bearing the King of Pop’s image has significantly increased, following his death in June.

In previous years, several paintings of Jackson by Warhol struggled to land a buyer, such as a portrait sold at Sotheby’s in London on July 2008, which was practically identical to the one sold in New York.

During the auction at Christie’s, the art dealer wasn’t even able to sell Warhol’s "Tunafish Disaster" piece from 1963, which was to be the highlight of the evening, with an estimated value of 6 million dollars.
