Mendes thinks that she has to wait for Winslet to retire from the film industry before she can land her dream roles. Kate Winslet is always grabbing the roles that the actress wants, reports the Orange County Review.
With her new role in Bad Lieutenant, Mendes hopes to get the producers’ attention and prove that she is a solid actress, in addition to taking on the roles that Winslet doesn’t accept.
Mendes stated, "Kate Winslet gets all of the gritty roles, understandably so! She is my idol and I just think she’s done it the right way."
The star added that Kate is not just a good actress, but also knows how to manage her career, which is why she has such deep respect for her.
However, Mendes believes that there should be more opportunities for women and those of colour and different backgrounds, just like the men have.
She said, "They are hard to come by, so sometimes I create them. I produced a film called Live! which I gave myself a great role in, playing a television network president. It’s coming out on DVD next month."
