During a recent conference organized by the Consensus of Copenhagen to Nairobi, the Danish company Gumlink Group announced the creation of a chewing gum with added vitamins to counteract malnutrition in undeveloped countries.

The chewing gum contains 375 micrograms of vitamin A.  It is the daily dose recommended by UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

The gum will be launched in the next months to Kenya and talks are in progress with the country’s government.

Coming in a package of six tablets, the gum is mainly intended for children from 3-5 years of age.  A lack in vitamin A has effects on the immune system and can cause blindness as well as several other diseases.

If we wish to reduce these diseases in undeveloped countries we must make it an appealing yet beneficial product to children, so something fun to eat becomes an important nutritional element.
