The singer revealed how shocked she was at the media attention surrounding her after she was assaulted by her then-boyfriend, Chris Brown, last February. She compared the attention to the Britney Spears media frenzy that was going on in 2007, reports FemaleFirst.
She explained, "I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day."
"The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard," added Rihanna.
She went on to discuss how difficult it can be for a young woman to admit to her parents that she is being victimized by a boyfriend. "It’s one of the things women will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery."
Chris Brown pleaded guilty to charges of assault last August, and was sentenced to six months of community service, and was also ordered to stay away from Rihanna for five years.
