Mary J. Blige Opens Women’s Refuge

Mary J. Blige has established a refuge for women victims of domestic violence.

The R&B singer made a huge stride in her campaign to help victims of domestic violence by opening a women’s center in New York, reports Starpulse.com.

Blige still candidly talks about her past family problems, particularly about how her father often beat her mother before he finally left the family when she was only four.

The star has been a long-time advocate for charities for women, and even established the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN).

Recently, her organisation teamed with Frida Giannini, the creative director at Gucci, and several New York organisations to open a help center for women.

Yesterday (October 29) marked the grand opening of the Mary J. Blige Center for Women.

The singer announced, "All age ranges will be able to come to this center. Women from all walks of life, not just women from poverty-stricken areas. Whatever it is, they’ll be able to come here. There are gonna be psychologists here, doctors here, day care centers here. Anything that you need or they need to be able to better themselves is here for them."

Blige remarked that she is delighted to have the opportunity to use her fame for a good cause.
