Director Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Bedtime Stories) will work behind the camera for the film adaptation of the Broadway musical.
Rock of Ages creator Chris D’Arienzo wrote the screenplay. The story follows two people who meet at the Rock of Ages club on Sunset Strip. They fall in love and try to stay together during rock music’s glory days in the 80s.
Production is set to begin this summer for a release in 2011.
In the meantime, Shankman acts as a producer for the film The Last Song, starring Miley Cyrus. The film opens on April 2, 2010. Also next year, he will direct Hairspray 2.
