Mark Wahlberg as a Smuggler

Mark Wahlberg will be starring in the film Reykjavik-Rotterdam.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Wahlberg will star in a remake of the Icelandic thriller.

Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) is writing the script, and the project will be directed by author Baltasar Kormakur, who produced and starred in the original version.

The film tells the story of a security guard who used to smuggle alcohol between Iceland and the Netherlands. He gets back into the illegal business for money with encouragement from a dubious friend. The American version will likely use a different backdrop.

The original film was chosen to represent Iceland in the best foreign language film category for the upcoming Academy Awards contention.

In the meantime, Mark Wahlberg will share the screen with Rachel Weisz and Susan Sarandon in The Lovely Bones, the next Peter Jackson project that is headed for theatres on January 15.
