Potential New Treatment For Bone Cancer

Bone cancer may no longer be fatal.

Researchers at the University of Tel-Aviv, Israel, have found a way to control the progression of bone cancer with the use of a polymer.

The polymer binds to bone and acts like a drug that deprives cancer cells of blood vessels necessary for its proliferation.

The product was tested on mice with bone cancer. In 50% of the mice, the cancer completely disappeared, while in others the disease declined significantly.

There are currently two main types of bone cancer. Osteosarcoma which mainly affects children, and breast and prostate cancers, which when metastasized become widespread bone cancer. In these cases, chemotherapy is ineffective.

Now, researchers need to test this new treatment in human studies. Hopefully, this new treatment could bring the disease to a new level that is not fatal.
