Traffic Noise Increases Risk Of Hypertension

Road traffic noise increases blood pressure in middle-aged adults.

According to a Swedish study published in Environment Health, road traffic noise leads to an increase in hypertension in people aged between 40 and 59 years old.

The study conducted on 24 238 adults aged between 18 and 80 years, demonstrated that when people between the age of 40 and 59 are exposed to road traffic noise above 60 decibels, their risk of hypertension increased.

In constrast, between 45 and 64 decibels, no effects were observed in any age group, except for a few effects in young adults.

More studies are needed to further evaluate these effects for each age group.
