Fashion Week in America began yesterday (September 10) in New York.
While the event runs until September 17, hundreds of designers, including Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg, will unveil their new spring/summer 2010 collections before they are flaunted on the catwalks of Milan, Paris and London.
For the occasion, Diane von Furstenberg, president of the designers’ association, teamed with several celebrities, including Anna Wintour, Sarah Jessica Parker and P. Diddy, to create a buzz among the public and designers.
Approximately 175 000 people are employed in the fashion industry in New York alone, generating revenues of 10 billion dollars, much of this number attributed to consumer spending.
