According to People, the singer posted an announcement on her Web site, which read, "After much thoughtful mutual consideration, Dean and I have agreed to move forward with dissolving our marriage. This decision was amicable and we remain committed and caring friends with great admiration for one another."
Rimes, who turned 27 last Friday (August 28), married Sheremet in 2002 when she was 19. The couple split following rumours that she was having an affair with actor Eddie Cibrian, with whom she filmed Northern Lights last fall.
Cibrian also divorced his wife, Brandi Glanville, last week.
