Cold Cuts Become the Black Sheep Again

Parents should try to avoid giving coldcuts to their children.

The cold-cut meat industry must face yet more tribulation nearly one year after the listeriosis crisis erupted. The World Cancer Research Fund has advised parents not to give their children cold cuts, reports Cyberpresse.

The organisation has discovered a link between the consumption of cold cuts and colorectal cancer, which is why it is recommending that young children not eat a great quantity of ham, salami, sausages and bologna.

In a report that the Fund published in 2007, it was already recommended that people limit the amount of red meat, and to steer clear of processed meat and commercial cold cuts, which contain salt and preservatives.

The nitrates that allow meat to last longer transform into carcinogenic molecules once consumed.
