Paul Giamatti to Play a Stooge

While Paul Giamatti will be replacing Sean Penn, Jim Carrey is now backing out of The Three Stooges.

After several weeks of rumours, Peter Farrelly announced to the Boston Globe that Giamatti would be starring in The Three Stooges. He is replacing Sean Penn, who turned down the project to spend more time with family.

Now that an actor has been found to star as Larry, Jim Carrey, who was to play Curly, has resigned, and no actor has been confirmed as his replacement. However, Benicio Del Toro is still attached to the role of Moe.

Bobby and Peter Farrelly have been wanting to make The Three Stooges for several years, and are shooting for a 2010 opening date.

Meanwhile, Paul Giamatti will soon be heading to Quebec to film Barney’s Version, which begins filming on August 17.
