According to Variety, Crowe has joined the cast of the upcoming film.
Being directed by Paul Haggis (Crash), the project is a Hollywood remake of the French film Pour elle, which was released last year and starred Vincent Lindon and Diane Kruger.
Crowe will play a teacher whose wife is convicted of a murder that she insists she did not commit.
Production is set to begin in September in Pittsburgh.
Russell Crowe has just finished shooting Robin Hood in England. The film will be released in theatres on May 14, 2010.
