Variety reports that Thurman has accepted a role as Sister Caroline in the independent film Girl Soldier.
Based on the Kathy Cook book titled Stolen Angels, this story follows the raid of 1996 in a boarding school in Uganda, when army rebels kidnapped young girls and turned them into soldiers and sex slaves.
A teacher named Sister Caroline followed the rebels to demand that the hostages be freed. As a result, 110 were returned. Over the years, she continued her crusade to release all the kidnapped children, rallying help from parents, the government, the United Nations and the Vatican.
Filming is expected to begin in early 2010.
Meanwhile, Uma Thurman will be starring in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, opening on February 12, 2010.
