Disney has acquired the film rights to Wings, a book written by Aprilynne Pike for young adults.
Variety reports that Cyrus will play Laurel, a 15-year-old living in a small town. She soon finds out that she is very different from her friends. In fact, she is a fairy sent to humans to protect the gateway to Avalon. When diving into the heart of an old battle between trolls and fairies, her loyalty to the different worlds will come under severe strain.
Wings, the first in a series of four books, was released in May. The second book will be launched on June 8, 2010.
The film is not expected to hit theatres before 2011.
Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus is finishing filming The Last Song, which will open on January 8, 2010.
