New Version of Barbarella

Director Robert Luketic is preparing a new version of the classic Barbarella.

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Luketic (Monster in Law, Legally Blonde) will carry the torch passed on by Robert Rodriguez.

Luketic is working alongside Dino De Laurentiis on a remake of the 1968 film, Barbarella, which starred Jane Fonda.

Rodriguez was the initial director on the project, and he wanted his wife, Rose McGowan, to star in the film. However, he later withdrew from the project, because he didn’t want to film in Europe and be far away from his children.

Therefore, Luketic has taken over, and an informed source said that the new version will be an intergalactic adventure with a touch of sex appeal. No other details have been revealed.

Barbarella was created in 1962 for a French graphic magazine by Jean-Claude Forest. His adventures have been published around the world. The first film, released in 1968, was produced by De Laurentiis and directed by Roger Vadim.
