Americans Lack Good Diet, Not Exercise

A study revealed that obesity in Americans cannot be attributed to a sedentary lifestyle but rather to their diet.

According to a study presented during an international obesity conference on Friday (May 8) in Amsterdam, obesity in Americans is not due to lack of exercise, but rather to their over consumption of food, reports Cyberpresse.ca.

According to the study’s principal investigator, Boyd Swinburn, there was no evidence of a decrease in the amount of physical activity that would lead to the cause of the American epidemic. He added that, in fact, the culprit was due to the increased calorie intake, which brought on the weight gain.

In the United States, children gained four kilograms and adults gained eight kilograms on average in the past three decades.

Researchers discovered that Americans were anticipated to weigh more, taking their dietary habits into account. This signified that they probably upped the intensity of their physical activity.

In order to revert to the weight they were in the 1970s, American children would have had to reduce their food consumption by 350 calories per day, whereas adults must reduce their daily caloric intake by 500.
