Katie Holmes in Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Katie Holmes will be starring in a film written and produced by Guillermo del Toro.

Katie Holmes has joined the cast of the thriller Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, reports Variety.

The screenplay was penned by the Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, and Matthew Robbins. Mr. del Toro will also act as the project’s producer with Mark Johnson, while Tory Nixon, del Toro’s protégé, will be director.

Inspired by the 1973 television film that aired on ABC, the story is about a young girl who moves into a new house with her father and his girlfriend. However, the home is inhabited by diabolical creatures.

Filming for Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark will begin this summer in Melbourne, Australia.

Katie Holmes has just wrapped up the comedy The Extra Man, set to open in theatres next year.
