The Mumbai police announced that Rafiq Qureshi, the father of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali, will not be charged for allegedly putting his daughter up for sale, reports People.
Apparently, there was no substantial proof that he tried to sell his daughter. "So far there is no evidence of any offense, hence there is no registration of complaint and no arrest," reported Officer Nisar Tamboli.
It was reported that the man was ready to sell his daughter for approximately $400 000 US. Qureshi commented that this story was a pure fabrication concocted by foreign media.
The family, who has received monetary aid from Slumdog Millionaire producers, said that they are still willing to accept supplementary aid, even though the young girl’s education is secured.
