The pop icon plans to continue fighting until she is able to adopt the 3-year-old girl from Malawi.
Last week, a Malawi judge denied Madonna’s application for adoption. The star’s appeal to that decision will be heard in the next few weeks.
Surprisingly, Madonna is even receiving support from the Human Rights Commission in Malawi, who were shocked at the judge’s ruling. Alan Chinula, who is representing Madonna in the case, said, "We believe the honorable judge erred in her ruling because we believe the rights of the child were not fully considered."
The Legal Services Commission is now investigating whether Mercy James would be better suited in an orphanage or living with Madonna.
Pending the final decision, the little girl is being cared for by Madonna’s charity organisation, Raising Malawi. Mercy James has reportedly already started calling Madge "mommy" and is asking for her.
