Madonna Is Denied

The Malawi government has rejected Madonna’s request to adopt another child from the country.

Madonna’s request filed last week to adopt little Mercy James, 4, was denied by Malawi authorities, reports People.

This time, the singer was certainly not given the star treatment that she was accused of capitalising on during her adoption of David Banda.  According to the court, an adoptive parent must live in Malawi for 18 to 24 months before adopting a child.

When the star adopted David, the boy lived with Madonna, her husband, and their children in London before the adoption was made final two years later.

Children’s rights groups strongly criticised the Malawi government for bending their rules to accommodate a celebrity after David’s adoption.

No comments have come from Madonna’s camp following the ruling.
