Up to Open the Cannes Film Festival

The next film by Pixar Studios, Up, will open the Cannes Film Festival.

Up, the animated, digital Pixar film in 3D, will kick off the next Cannes International Film Festival on May 13.

This is the first time that an animated film will have the honours of opening the celebration. However, Dumbo was presented during the event in 1947, and more recently, we have also seen Shrek and Persepolis presented.

Up tells the story of a 78-year-old man who takes the trip of his life by attaching thousands of balloons to his house. The film hits the screens on May 29.

The Cannes Film Festival will take place on May 13 until May 24, and the panel of judges will be lead by Isabelle Huppert. The host to open the ceremony will be Edouard Baer (Molière, Astérix et Obélix : Mission Cléopâtre).
