A Sequel for Journey to the Center of the Earth

A sequel is in the works for the film Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Variety reports that New Line Cinema has teamed with Walden Media and ContraFilm to produce a sequel for Journey to the Center of the Earth, which was released last year.

The second film will be based on a story by Richard Outten, entitled Mysterious Travels: The Lost Map of Treasure Island.  In the movie, we will follow professor Trevor Anderson and his nephew trying to find the mysterious island that inspired three novels: Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift.

No actors have been cast for the sequel, but Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson may be returning to their roles for the new instalment.

Journey to the Center of the Earth was a success, earning $140 million in the world.
