Sheri Gilbert, a North Carolina woman, claims that the creators of the romantic comedy, Monster-in-Law, stole the script for the hit movie in 1998, in which Jennifer Lopez starred as the main character.
On Thursday (March 12), Gilbert petitioned for a copyrights lawsuit at a Raleigh judicial court.
The woman says that the script is much too similar to hers, and is asking for $60 million compensation from the earnings of the film.
An attorney representing Warner Bros. Studios argues that the unbearable mother-in-law theme is quite common, and asks that the court refrain from going through legal proceedings.
