Slumdog Millionaire Crowned with Eight Oscars

The film Slumdog Millionaire was crowned the best film of the year at the Oscars.

Slumdog Millionaire won eight Academy awards last night (February 22). Danny Boyle’s film earned the awards for best picture, best directing, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best sound mixing, best film editing, best musical score and best song with Jai Ho.

Kate Winslet was finally honoured with her Oscar for her leading role in The Reader. Penelope Cruz received her trophy for best supporting actress in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

For the men, Sean Penn won for best actor for Milk, over Mickey Rourke. For best supporting actor, it comes to no surprise that the award was given to the late actor, Heath Ledger, for The Dark Knight.

Wall-E won the Oscar for best animated film and Okuribito was picked for best foreign language film, which was up against Entre les murs and Valse avec Bashir.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button earned three technical Oscars, one for best artistic direction, best makeup and best visual effects, which were three categories in which Slumdog Millionaire was not nominated.

The event took on a new approach with Hugh Jackman and a touch of Broadway, which seemed to be a successful and effective formula.
