James Gray (We Own the Night, The Yards) has signed on to direct the film The Lost City of Z, starring Brad Pitt.
Pitt will play Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, a British explorer who is convinced that a lost civilisation named Z exists in the midst of the Amazon jungle.
In 1925, Fawcett disappeared in the jungle with his team, which included one of his sons. Other explorers have tried in vain to follow in his footsteps.
James Gray also directed Two Lovers, with Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow, which hits theatres on February 13, 2009.
