Columbia Pictures would like to do a new Karate Kid film and put Jaden Smith in the starring role.
The film was written by Chris Murphy and will be produced by Jerry Weintraud and Overbrook Entertainment’s partners, James Lassiter, Will Smith, and Ken Stovitz.
Filming will start next year in many cities including Beijing. Although it is being filmed in exotic places, the new film will stick to the original plot of a young boy who learns to defend himself with the help of a mentor.
Jaden Smith played in The Pursuit of Happyness, and will also be in the film The Day the Earth Stood Still, alongside Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly. It will be in theatres on December 12.
