According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman will star in and produce the film The Danish Girl.
The story is based on the book of the same name by David Ebershoff. The true story follows the lives of Einar and Greta Wegener in Copenhagen in the 1920s.
Kidman will play Einar, artist Greta Wegener’s husband. Greta will be played by Charlize Theron.
Einar Wegener was the first man to undergo a sex change operation in 1931. A number of subsequent procedures to make him a complete woman later resulted in his death.
The screenplay will be written by Lucinda Coxon (The Heart of Me) and directed by Anand Tucker (Shopgirl).
In the meantime, Nicole Kidman will be sharing the screen with Hugh Jackman in the adventure drama Australia. The Baz Lurhmann film opens in theatres on November 26.
