UsMagazine.com reports that fans can watch Smith on the show for the last time this Thursday (November 6).
According to Michael Ausiello of EW.com, Dr. Hahn’s homosexuality was the reason that the character was written off the show. However, ABC denies that the character’s sexual preference had anything to do with the decision for letting Smith go.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes explained, "Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it’s not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show — Calliope Torres."
It seems that there was a problem with chemistry between Smith and Ramirez, her on-screen partner, that resulted in the decision. "Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run," added Rhimes.
