Quebec Wildlife Reserve Celebrates 40 Years

The residents of Rivière-à-Pierre, as well as hunting and fishing fans, will be happy to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the wildlife preserve in Portneuf.

The beautiful and peaceful site is located only an hour outside of Quebec City, and features 45 chalets over an area that measures 775 square kilometres.

Several activities are offered in Portneuf, including climbing, canoeing, camping and skiing, and it’s also the perfect place for simply relaxing outdoors.

Although it’s the third smallest of the province’s 15 wildlife preserves, it is still one of the most-visited.  Since its opening, the site has hosted more than 3 million guests.

Hunting and fishing at Portneuf were made possible with the help of Gabriel Loubier, Minister of Tourism, and Daniel Johnson, Minister of Hunting and Fishing.  In the early 1960s, these activities were restricted for only members of private clubs.
