The Canadian singer revealed to Billboard.com that she has separated from Sood, who is a drummer in her band.
McLachlan didn’t give any details on the split, although she called the breakup "pretty gross." The two have been married for 11 years and are the parents of two girls, India, 6, and Taja Summer, 14 months.
The singer’s fans will hear songs that were written during the emotional time by McLachlan on her new compilation album, Closer: The Best of Sarah McLachlan.
The song Don’t Give Up on Us was written as she hoped to find a resolution to her marital problems. She explained, "Basically [it’s] just a plea to give it another chance and keep trying."
In U Want Me 2, McLachlan sings about the confusion that exists at the end of a relationship when there’s no communication.
