A Harry Potter Conflict

Warner Bros. is filing a lawsuit for plagiarism against an independent Indian studio.

FemaleFirst reports that Warner Bros. is suing the company Mirchi Movies based in Mumbai, India, which is getting ready to release the comedy Hari Puttar on September 12.

Hari Puttar is about the life of a 10-year-old boy who travels to Great Britain. Warner Bros. claims that the film’s name strikes too close a resemblance to Harry Potter and that it infringes on the copyrights of the franchise.

Mirchi Movies is taking defence, insisting that they have not copied the name.

The American film studio confirmed the news, however, has not made any comment on the affair, keeping matters within the courtroom. The case was heard on Monday (August 25) at the Supreme Court in Mumbai.
