Recall on Maple Leaf Products

The food company Maple Leaf has been forced to conduct a recall on its meat products.

Maple Leaf announced a recall of meat products, specifically in Canadian restaurants and hospitals, after 17 reported cases of listeriosis, one of which was in Quebec. According to a report from Cyberpresse.ca, one of the Ontario victims died.

The 17 cases of listeriosis were discovered in the month of June by the Canadian Public Health Department.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting an investigation to identify the origin of the listeriosis bacteria. However, the agency has not officially pointed the finger at Maple Leaf.

The meat company started the recall on its own initiative.

In 2000, seven people died from listeriosis in France and the contamination source was never identified.
