Chris Columbus To Direct RFK Film

Chris Columbus will direct a movie about the presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy.

Director and filmmaker Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) will be making a new film about the life of Robert F. Kennedy.

Through his company, 1492 Productions, Columbus has acquired the film rights to Thurston Clarke’s book, "The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America."

The book focuses on the campaign of John F. Kennedy’s idealistic brother, who wanted to stop poverty, racism, and put an end to the Vietnam War.

Columbus will produce the film along with his 1492 Productions partners, Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe.  He will also write the screenplay.

The filmmaker has just finished directing the film I Love You, Beth Cooper, starring Hayden Panettiere (Heroes).  The movie will hit theatres in 2009.
