According to the jeweller Jacob & Co., the Haitian-born singer did not pay a bill totalling more than $300 000.
The New York company claims that the former Fugees member bought watches and jewellery and has not paid what he owes.
Jacob & Co. is a very well known jeweller in the show business industry. Artists such as Kanye West, The Game and Beyoncé have even referred to the company in their some of their song lyrics. The jewellery store has also served clients, such as Madonna and Elton John.
Jean, who was appointed as the roving ambassador of Haiti by President René Préval, has not made any comments on the lawsuit. The amount he is being sued for has not been revealed.
