Hollywood Actors Await a Response

Hollywood is waiting for a response from the actors union on the latest proposal.

Last week, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), asked for a delay to carefully evaluate a final offer given by the network of producers.  The response should be given today (July 7).

The latest offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers included a $250 million compensation to be given to actors over the span of three years.

The SAG asked for a salary increase for actors earning an average salary of less than $100 000 per year, and wants those actors to be paid dividends on the sale of DVDs and new media, such as those downloaded on the Internet.

Producers believe the actors are being unrealistic, because the new types of media are not yet profitable.

If the performers should go on strike, it would fall just four and a half months after the costly screenwriters strike that paralyzed the industry.
