Robert Downey Jr. in a Sci-Fi Western

Robert Downey Jr. could play in a new comic book film adaption.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. is in negotiations about playing in the film Cowboys & Aliens, a DreamWorks and Universal Pictures production.

The film will be an adaptation from Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley’s comic book and will be based on an original idea from Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.

The film tells the story about an old battle in the west against the Apache Indians and cowboys. Zeke Jackson (Robert Downey Jr.) would be playing the former cowboy. An alien invasion would break up the battle, which takes place close to the plains in Silver City, Arizona.

The mix of western and science fiction film is anticipated to hit the screens in 2010.

Robert Downey Jr. recently starred in Iron Man and can be next seen in the upcoming films, Tropic Thunder on August 15, and The Soloist on November 21.
