A Sad Moment for the Fashion Industry

Designer Yves Saint Laurent died this weekend at the age of 71.

Yves Saint Laurent, the most influential French fashion designer of the past 50 years, died yesterday (June 1) in Paris at the age of 71, reports People.

Sources revealed that the designer became ill and had to be taken to the hospital last week, and that he fell into a coma on Wednesday (May 28). Saint Laurent’s health had deteriorated over the past months.

Yves Saint Laurent’s partner, Pierre Bergé, revealed that the designer "knew that he had revolutionized fashion, that he had revolutionized the second half of the 20th century. His designs accompanied the evolution of women."

Yves Saint Laurent was born on August 1, 1936 in Algeria, and was known for his immense impact in the high fashion world, especially in France.

A retrospective exhibit in honour of Yves Saint Laurent is showcased at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts until September 28, 2008.
