People reports that Jennifer Butler Murray has filed divorce documents to end her 10-year marriage to the Lost in Translation star.
Murray’s wife moved out of the family home in 2006 because of the star’s drug use, violence, and adultery. According to the Charleston Post and Courier, Murray was also physically abusive towards his wife, and told her that she’s lucky that he didn’t kill her.
She has also asked a Charleston County judge in South Carolina to grant her a restraining order against Murray.
Bill Murray’s lawyer responded to the news, saying that the actor is very sad about the breakup of his marriage, and that the two will focus on what’s best for the couple’s four children.
Before the marriage, a prenuptial agreement was signed by both parties. As part of the agreement, Murray will pay Jennifer Butler Murray $7 million within 60 days of their final divorce decree.
