Jonathan Demme to Replace Martin Scorsese

Director Jonathan Demme will now direct the documentary about the life of Bob Marley.

According to Variety, director Jonathan Demme will replace Martin Scorsese behind the camera for a documentary about the late legendary reggae artist, Bob Marley.  Scorsese backed out of the project due to a schedule conflict.

Jonathan Demme has directed a lot of projects in the music industry.  He directed the video for the Bruce Springsteen song Streets of Philadelphia and the Pretenders song I Got You Babe.  Demme also directed the Neil Young documentary, Heart of Gold.

The Bob Marley documentary, which is not yet titled, will be produced by Tuff Gong Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment.  Bob Marley’s family approves of the project.

The film is expected to be released on February 6, 2010, which would have been the singer’s 65th birthday.
