Daniel Day-Lewis in Nine

Daniel Day-Lewis may be joining the cast of the musical comedy Nine.

According to Variety, Daniel Day-Lewis is currently in talks about playing the role of Guido Contini in the film adaptation, Nine.  If he accepts, the actor will be replacing Javier Bardem, who turned down the role so that he could take a break from his career.

Nine is a highly acclaimed Broadway production, and was inspired by the film 8 1/2, directed by Federico Fellini in 1963. The story is about Guido Contini, a director who is going through an existential crisis and tries to juggle all the women in his life.

The new adaptation will be directed by Rob Marshall, who brought Chicago to the big screen.

Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench have already confirmed their participation in the film.

The movie will start shooting in the fall.

Daniel Day-Lewis’ last film was There Will Be Blood, for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor.
