According to Variety, Nicolas Cage will be starring in a new version of the 1992 film, Bad Lieutenant.
The first version was directed by Abel Ferrara (California, The Funeral), and featured Harvey Keitel.
The new version with Nicolas Cage will be directed by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man). The screenplay will be adapted by Billy Finkelstein (Law & Order, Murder One).
Bad Lieutenant tells the twisted story about a New York police officer grappling with serious drug problems, gambling debt, and corruption.
Filming is expected to take place later this summer.
Nicolas Cage is wrapping up the shoot of Knowing in Australia. He can next be seen in Bangkok Dangerous, which comes to theatres on August 22.
