Heath Ledger Portrait Wins a Prize

A friend of Heath Ledger won a prestigious prize for a portrait of the late actor.

A portrait of the deceased actor, Heath Ledger, won the Archibald Prize at an Australian exposition yesterday (May 8), reports People.

More than 32 000 people voted for their favourite pieces of work at the exposition.  The prize is considered to be one of the most prestigious in Australia.  The portrait, called "Heath", was created by a friend of the actor, Vincent Fantauzzo, before Ledger’s death.

According to a spokesperson for the art gallery in New South Wales, Sydney, Ledger’s family and the artist decided to offer the portrait to the gallery.

In addition to the award, Fantauzzo was given two gift certificates, one for $2 500 and another for $1 000.

The portrait was painted last December at Ledger’s family’s home in Perth, Australia.
