While his girlfriend was working on the set of the film Bride Wars, Raffaelo Follieri was arrested in New York on Thursday (April 3). Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend of four years was arrested for trying to pass a bad check for $250 000.
The story was reported by People magazine, and was confirmed by Martin Speechley, a spokesperson for the New York Police Department.
Follieri was ordered by a Washington D.C. court to pay a public relations firm $250 000 for work done on his behalf.
Last year, the Italian property developer faced a lawsuit filed by Ron Burkle. The suit claimed that Follieri squandered $1.3 million from his company. Follieri denied any wrongdoing.
The legal problems don’t seem to be a problem for Hathaway, who says that her boyfriend has been a good influence on her. "He’s brought out so many positive attributes," said the actress.
