Borat Lawsuit Dismissed

Sacha Baron Cohen, who played Borat, will not be sued for defamation.

Loretta Preska, a New York judge, tossed out the defamation lawsuit by financial analyst, Jeffrey Lemerond, who wanted to sue the British actor.

Lemerond criticized Sacha Baron Cohen for showing him in the movie running and yelling in the streets of Manhattan.  According to Judge Preska, this scene is not pejorative, but shows humour and irony.

The two lawyers refused to comment on the court’s decision.

It is not the first time Baron Cohen has faced charges because of his character, Borat.  Two students in South Carolina also tried to sue 20th Century Fox, the corporation that distributed the comedy in 2006.
